Senior year. Cue scary music.

I’ve heard all the horror stories about being a senior – your last year, facing the real world, actually being on your own, the frustration, anger, and tears – and I’ve been mentally preparing myself all summer.

But I’ve got to tell you, aside from the normal overwhelming feeling and the normal stress that accompanies the beginning of any involved student’s year, things look really good. As a senior I’m getting to take two senior seminar classes – one for my screenwriting major and another for my English major. And because they’re such high level courses – 497 and 498, respectively, I get to focus on anything I want. I’m writing my English Senior Thesis on Chuck Palahniuk (you may know him as the guy who wrote Fight Club). He’s definitely not on your average English class syllabus, and I’m stoked to get a chance to research and write about him and his books.

Of course, it’s going to be a lot of work, but I can’t remember the last time I was this excited to write a 25 page research paper.

So if senior year is really as scary and hard to deal with as I’ve heard, I’ve yet to see any of that. And until that moment arrives, I will say that Senior year is shaping up to rank right there at the top.
