Microfinance Brigades

Did you know there is a program that helps start Microfinancing within
developing and underdeveloped countries? Microfinance Brigades (MFB)
provides poverty-stricken communities in the developing world with the
educational, financial, and organization resources necessary to
sustainably drive their own economic development. MFB volunteers help
the under resourced in remote villages build their own businesses,
ensure against emergencies, and fund community projects. Their
ultimate goal to to create a sustainable growing economy through
entrepreneurial driven business. Partnering with other international
organizations in microfinance, agriculture, MFB provides the financial
backing technical support to create and strengthen independent
community banks. As mechanisms for social and economic change, these
banks are then empowered to perpetuate other community projects
facilitated by Global Brigades volunteers. This grass-roots approach
advances communities and encourages them away from dependence on
outside aid and towards self-reliant sustainability.

MFB is the sister organization of Global Business Brigades and a
program of Global Brigades, Inc., the world's largest student-led
global health and sustainable development organization. There are 12
different programs within the Global Brigades program. They include:

Medical Brigades

Business Brigades

Water Brigades

Environmental Brigades

Law Brigades

Dental Brigades

Architecture Brigades

Public Health Brigades

Microfinance Brigades

The Microfinance Brigades are a new organization on Chapman's campus.
It is run by two current seniors and a faculty member. This year they
will be going to Honduras for ten days gaining hands on experience
through field work. This opportunity is a great addition to the many
travel and abroad opportunities already in existence here at the
university. If I could give anyone one piece of advice, it would be to
GO ABROAD or DO A TRAVEL COURSE!!! I absolutely loved it and it
changed my life for the better.
